The NBA season is over, so lets take a look at the SPAB NBA Playoff Preview!
Milwaukee Bucks - The Bucks got the #1 seed with a 25% chance at the number 1 overall pick in the draft. The Bucks actually set out to be a playoff team this year which makes it pretty embarrassing that they finished with the league’s worst record. Bad news for the Bucks is it has been 9 years since the team with the best chance has actually landed the first overall selection in the draft.
Philadelphia 76ers - The #2 seeded Sixers have a 19.9% chance at the number 1 pick. Its no secret that the number 1 pick is what they have planned on getting ever since GM Sam Hinkie took over last year and traded away Jrue Holiday. The Sixers brought in and ended the season with wins against the Miami Heat. The real story in what was sandwiched in between those wins, 63 losses (including an NBA record tying 26 game losing streak), acquiring almost all of the second round in the draft, and putting a team on the court that had about 8 guys who belong in the D-League.
Huh?
Are you sure?
I’ve just been informed that the NBA Playoffs is not the race for the #1 overall pick in the draft. I guess after a year of watching the Sixers I lost sight of what basketball is played for.
Well, I guess I’ll get into the ACTUAL Playoff Preview.
Listen, I’m a straight forward kind of guy. I’m not going to bore you with lies about how the 6th Seeded Brooklyn Nets swept the Miami Heat in the regular season and could upset them in round 2 if they get past the Raptors. It’s not going to happen. The NBA is not like the NFL, NHL, or MLB, where pretty much all playoff teams legitimately have a shot at winning it all. Let’s start with the East.
The East is a two team race: Indiana vs Miami.
The Heat are getting old, and their success depends on the health of their big three, but when they are at their best there is no better collection of stars than Bosh, Wade, and James.
Paul George is the star of the young Pacers squad, and he also has two first names, which is a great quality in any basketball player. The Pacers had a great start to the season but struggled a little towards then end, and barely held on to the number 1 seed. After losing in 7 games to the Heat last year, many of the Pacers thought with home court advantage that they would have won the series. This year they have home court advantage and will have no excuses when the Heat roll in to Indiana for the Eastern Conference Finals.
The problem for the Pacers is that the best player in the world plays for the Heat, and because of that the Heat will once again win the East.
Come back next time where I'll break down the West along with the NBA Finals!
