It's everyone's favorite time of the year! Beach Trips and barbecues; swimming pools and sporting events! Nothing says summer like combining your beach trips and your sports into one. Football tosses, volleyball and wiffle ball on the beach are staples of the season, but nothing says summer like slinging a frisbee back and forth on the beach. But the frisbee isn't just for the beach anymore.
Most everyone has at least heard of the new sport called "Ultimate Frisbee". Two teams of seven try to move their disc down the field with limited steps and crisp passes. The game is a pretty big deal around college campuses or anywhere else that the youth of America hangs out (hollar to the youth of America!).
But the most pass heavy game on two feet is really starting to grow legs! I've known about Ultimate for years, but what I just found out (and I'm thinking a lot of the country will soon find out too) is that there is a professional Ultimate league. BOOM!
The league has 8 teams which is pretty solid as far as most first year sports go. They've already got one season under their belt with a rich future ahead of them. This Saturday in Philadelphia, the San Francisco Dogfish and the Boston Whitecaps will go head to head for the first MLUltimate Championship!
I hope the trophy really looks like this. That is a nice trophy! |
And this excitement has boiled over into a goal, a dream, and ambition. I happen to live right down the highway from the home of the Philadelphia Spinners, which just so happens to be my new favorite MLUltimate team! It is my goal to make Sports Pro & the Average Bro the new official sports blog of the Philadelphia Spinners.
Think about it! There's nothing more bro than tossing around the ol' flyin disc with a couple of buddies in INTENSE COMPETITION! Plus they're all Sports Pros! It's a perfect fit!
The disc in your court Philly Spinners and MLUltimate! I'm officially making the Spinners the Official MLUltimate team of the Sports Pro & the Average Bro. What will happen next? We'll just let the discs fall where they may!
